A Fun, Challenging, Safe and
Supportive Training Environment

Function not Fantasytm

We offer realistic self-defense skills and training in a supportive environment where improved performance, fitness, and fun are the only criteria.

We incorporate movement, timing, and appropriate progressive resistance from a training partner in all aspects of our training. This aliveness means that individuals discover how to make skills work -- themselves. Practice becomes a real process of self-discovery.

All training is progressive and strictly performance based, this allows the athlete with little experience to build a solid foundation of conditioning and skill, at the same time enables those with natural aptitude to excel.

Anyone can train this way, regardless of age or current level of fitness.

Fun not Fear

It’s a healthier way to train. We provide an environment where healthy competition is encouraged and the participants gain confidence in the self-defense skills they’ve earned -- as well as their improved fitness level. And, most importantly, the training is enjoyable. After all, if it weren’t fun, the members wouldn’t be coming back week after week...

The skills are directly applicable to street self-defense situations. We emphasize awareness of the immediate environment, conflict recognition and de-escalation. Fighting, as it should be, is a last resort.

Since members know that their skills are functional - they make them work against resistance, every practice - they can focus on the more important aspects of training: enjoyment and personal growth.

Straight Blast Gym International

MODCOM-MMA is a Straight Blast Gym, and a proud part of Straight Blast Gym International. We owe much of our inspiration and direction to the hard work of the SBGi, a great bunch of people. That’s exactly what the SBGi is, people. People with common training goals helping each other to grow…

“The SBGi (Straight Blast Gym International) is a group of individuals dedicated to, and held together by their common belief in training ALIVE. The SBGi is not any one particular Gym. It is not a group of buildings. It is not a club, or social Organization. The SBGi is people. It is made up of some of the most talented, intelligent, inspired, honest, and functional Martial Arts Coaches you will ever, or could ever meet.  Although the SBGi does place a large emphasis on the beautiful, practical, and gentle Art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and most of the top Coaches for the SBGi hold Black or Brown belts in this magnificent Art; the SBGi is not just a BJJ school.  Although the SBGi does place a large emphasis on the grandfather of all stand up fighting Arts - Boxing, and most of the SBGi Coaches have a strong background in Boxing, Muay Thai, Savate, and other boxing based Arts; (including former golden gloves boxers, pro boxers, as well as Muay Thai Coaches and fighters who have competed in places like Thailand and Japan) the SBGi is not just a Boxing, or Kickboxing Gym.  Although the SBGi does place a large emphasis on the much neglected Art of fighting in the clinch, including strikes (elbows, knees, hands, headbutts, etc), takedowns and throws (as drawn from Greco Roman wrestling, freestyle, and BJJ), and positional domination (as drawn from Greco Roman, and Muay Thai), the SBGi is not a wrestling Gym, or MMA "fight club".

The SBGi is about people, and our goal is to offer the cutting edge in self-defense, combat athletics, fitness, and personal growth, to every type of human body that walks through our door. Not just 22 Year old Athletes (although they will certainly find their niche here as well), but to professionals who have to work 45 hour weeks. To women of all ages. To older people, looking to get into shape, have fun, and learn self-defense. To children of all ages who can learn the Arts in a positive atmosphere of friendship and fun.”
