Our training covers 3 distinct areas (or games)
Stand Up: Boxing and Kickboxing Our curriculum is based on time and ring proven skills of International Boxing, Muay Thai (Thai Boxing, the national sport of Thailand), as well as elements from other effective forms of kickboxing. Rodney "Chico" King, Street Tough World Alliance (STWA), South Africa, developed our approach. Its focus is to develop functional skills that work in the boxing/kickboxing ring, MMA competition and in the street – without being overly dependent an athlete's physical attributes.
Clinch: Close Quarters Control
These skills are often neglected by other gyms, but are essential for controlling the opponent at the critical close quarter distance. The ability to control the clinch is essential as a platform for striking and understanding and controlling the transitions between Stand Up and Ground. The training methods are drawn primarily from the control positions and takedowns of Greco-Roman Wrestling, the high impact throws of Judo and the simple yet sophisticated clinchwork of Muay Thai.
Ground: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
The ability to fight on the ground if the situation arises (whether by choice, or by incident) is essential for the well-rounded fighter. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu forms the core of our Ground game. Skill and experience can offset size and strength. This is supplemented with techniques and skills from Judo, Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling.
